Time and Eternity |
|
| Humankind lives in time In Genesis the first chapter we find that God invented time for his purposes in dealing with mankind. In verse 5 of this chapter, God said that the evening in the morning were the first day. This first day was not only the first day of creation but the first day of time. Verse 14 tells us that he placed the lights in the heavens , (Sun moon and stars) "for signs and for seasons and for days and for years" in order that we may keep track of history. Time begins here and ends shortly after the end of the millennium in the book of Revelation. It is God's plan that we live in eternity. God lives in eternity. The evidence in Scripture indicates that everything that is not in time, is in eternity, before time and after time. Time seems to be a phenomenon that is embedded in the middle of eternity. In the gospel of John chapter 8 verse 58 Jesus says "verily, verily,I say unto you, before Abraham was I am." Let's look at that sentence for a little bit. "I say" is present tense. "Before Abraham was" is past tense, while I am which was present tense, is now moved to past tense. We are taught that God is omnipresent, which means he is everywhere present at one time, at all times, at any time. Indications are that at the end of time we all will live in eternity . The first verse of Hebrews 12 indicates that there is a great cloud of witnesses who are observing the actions of those individuals who still live on the face of the earth. I suspect that when we arrive in eternity, and are re-created in the image of Jesus Christ, we will have the privilege in eternity to observe all of God's creation and the history (his story) of mankind. |
